Stabilization
Stabilization is what makes AgeLapse timelapses smooth. It automatically detects faces (or bodies) in your photos and aligns them so your eyes stay in the same position across every frame.
How It Works
- You import photos into your project
- AgeLapse detects face/body position in each photo
- Each photo is transformed (moved, scaled, rotated) to align with your target position
- The result: a smooth timelapse where your face doesn't jump around
Stabilization happens automatically after import. You can watch progress in the Stabilize tab.
Stabilization Modes
AgeLapse offers two stabilization modes. Choose based on your needs:
Fast Mode (Default)
- Passes: Up to 4
- Corrections: Position only (horizontal/vertical movement)
- Speed: Fastest
Best for:
- Quick previews
- Photos taken with minimal camera tilt
- Large batches where speed matters
Slow Mode
- Passes: Up to 10
- Corrections: Position, rotation, and scale
- Speed: Slower but more thorough
Best for:
- Final/professional results
- Photos with camera rotation or tilt
- When you want the smoothest possible output
To change modes: Go to Settings → Stabilization Mode
Start with Fast Mode to preview your timelapse quickly. Switch to Slow Mode for your final export if you notice alignment issues.
Understanding Status Badges
In the gallery, each photo shows a status badge indicating its stabilization result:
| Badge | Meaning | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| ✓ Success | Photo stabilized correctly | Nothing needed |
| ⚠ No Faces Found | Face detection couldn't find a face | Check photo quality, or use manual stabilization |
| ✗ Failed | Stabilization encountered an error | Try manual stabilization |
Manual Stabilization
Sometimes automatic stabilization doesn't work perfectly. This can happen with:
- Unusual lighting or shadows
- Faces partially obscured (sunglasses, masks)
- Blurry or low-quality photos
- Extreme camera angles
For these cases, you can manually adjust how a photo is aligned.
